Edmund Park

  • Description: Hedgewood wants every home they build to meet or exceed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STARâ„¢ criteria. Several homes have been built to this level, but they want a way of doing it so that it can be easily replicated with minimal cost impact. This objective resulted in any examination of design and construction practices and the building of a pilot home. Features iinclude plywood sheathing was placed across the floor of the third floor, polyurethane foam was used to seal any gaps in the decking, high-performance windows with U=0.33 and solar heat gain coefficient of 0.32 were installed, air handler systems had ventilation lines connected to them and a ventilation controller was used so that the blower was set to run for enough time to ensure adequate distribution of outdoor air, and crawlspace walls are insulated with batts and all penetrations and gaps in the wall are foam sealed or caulked.
