Greensburg, KS

  • Description: Overview: Greensburg, KS suffered wide spread destruction when an EF-5 tornado, over one-mile wide, struck the city in early-May 2007; almost every structure in the city was destroyed or signifcantly damaged.  Two US DOE Building America Teams have been asked to provide technical assistance to the residents of Greensburg relating to the energy efficient rebuilding of their homes and community.  The teams will work directly with the city, homeowners, builders, subcontractors, and other local agencies in the design and construction of these high performance homes.  Since September '07, two IBACOS employees have been stationed full time in Greensburg for on-site support.  IBACOS has recruited several builders to take part in the redevelopment effort and aided them in the adoption of energy efficient building strategies and techniques.
