Konove-Ravetto Home

  • Description: Carolina Country Builders, Paul Konove and Alicia Ravetto, and NREL/DOE High-Performance Building Research worked together to design, construct, and monitor this high-performance home. The goal of this North Carolina 2,320-ft² contemporary home, was to incorporate passive solar design, realizing the economic and environmental savings associated with a good passive solar design. This house has a 66% energy savings over conventional houses in the area. Features include direct solar gain, thermal storage/ mass, overhang is engineered to allow winter passive solar gains while minimizing summer solar gains, natural ventilation, radiant floor heating, integrated hot water and heating system using instantaneous hot water heater and storage tank.
